Ready to Surf?

The World Wide Web is a great place to find out all kinds of things about what interests you. In school you often are not allowed to surf to things that interest you, but during this WebQuest you are going to do some important Surf'n!

Your Job

There are students just like you in schools all across the World. Some of them are interested in things that you are also interested in. Your job on this WebQuest will be to create a web page that will show other kids all over the world your ideas. You will choose a topic that interests you. Then you will explore many websites on that topic. When you think you are ready you will create a website. You can look at the sample websites. Your website will contain a form for readers to respond to you. You will send out an announcement about your website and then see what responses you get!

The Process

  1. Choose a topic to explore.
  2. Explore at least five web sites. Take notes on the guide sheet on the things listed below:
    • Why you chose the topic and three questions you were looking for answers to.
    • What new things you learned about the topic
    • When did you first get interested in this topic
    • List the URLs of the best web sites on this topic
  3. Create your own website from what you have learned.

  4. Your website can contain:

    • Graphics borrowed from sites you visited (if you have gotten permission to use them)
    • Graphics that you have made yourself.
    • A survey on a topic of your choice.
    Your web site MUST contain:
    • At least three paragraphs of writing telling what you have learned.
    • A guestbook with ________ as the e-mail address that people will respond to.

  5. OPTIONAL: Send an e-mail out to announce that people should look at your site.

  6. The e-mail should include at least what is listed below, but you can add other ideas you have:

    1. Subject: Invitation to Visit _______________(name of your site)

    2. Message: Greetings,You are invited to visit my new web site on ________________ (topic).

You can find it at ________________ (URL).

If you visit please send me a message in the guestbook!

      Thanks, ________________ (your name)
