The Application Process
Listed below are the tasks that must be accomplished in order to apply:
Complete and submit a written report including these things:NOTE: All of the numbers required above will be estimates. It is impossible to know exactly how many miles you will travel or how much money you will spend. However, your estimates must be close to what the actual cost will be. If you are not sure guess on the high side. It is better to have too much money than not enough.Look here for a SCORING GUIDE about the written application.
- Description of the trip-Be sure to describe an adventurous trip. This should be at least one paragraph. Include a world map with a line showing where you are going as a second page. Among each group the descriptions will be similar, but you should make an effort to show your own personality in the writing. Each one of your group needs to turn in their own.
- Description of Yourself-The Mystery Donor would like to get to know each person in the group a bit so she/he asks that you each write a description of yourself. Include your specific involvement in the trip. This description should be at least one paragraph. You can put both the trip description and your own description on the same page.
- Itinerary and Budget- There are five small budgets that all get combined into one group budget. Each person on your team should prepare one of the small budgets. Teams with less than five members will have to come up with a solution to getting all five budgets done. The whole group needs to collaborate on the Group Budget. There are some worksheets you may use for your budget.
NOTE: A link to a currency converter has been provided so that you can convert any expenses to dollars. The Million Dollars is in American Currency, so some of your purchases in other countries will need conversion.

- Travel Plans and Costs
- Estimates of food Costs
- Entertainment Costs
- Equipment Needed and Costs
- Group Budget (Total of the Above)
- Phone Calls from Three Countries The Mystery Donor wants to hear from you while you are on your trip. He needs a list of the three times you will call and where you will be. They calls must be made in three different countries. He wants to really experience all of the different places you visit. Be sure to tell him what country you will be calling from and the local time as well as the time he will receive the call at his location. Remember to take time zones into account. - Figure out the total mileage of your trip The Mystery Donor is not concerned about how far you go. He is interested in finding out the value he will be getting from your plan. If you want to figure it out you can take your total mileage and divide by the total cost of the trip. That will give you the cost per mile. There are bonus points if you figure cost per mile out for him. Although money is no object, he will be most interested in the trip that goes the farthest for the least amount of money!
- Currencies The mystery donor says that the more currencies you use the better. However, all of them will need to be converted to American Dollars. On your budget forms you will need to show what other currency you used and show the amount in American Dollars. Currency Converter
